As we all know by watching the recent headlines, there are a wide variety of potential changes to legislative and regulatory rules related to healthcare collections.
The industry is under a microscope, in part because of recent, highly publicized accusations and lawsuits in the healthcare collection industry. These items have certainly grabbed the attention of folks like Senator Al Franken and other state and federal regulatory bodies.
A few of the most recent proposals which would further restrict the ability of healthcare organizations attempts to collect for services rendered are:
1) Senator Al Franken’s proposed FDCPA restrictions on healthcare collections.
2) Treasury Department’s proposed rules on hospital charity care requirements.
Actively monitoring the momentum on these issues is of critical importance to healthcare and collections professionals.
